This bridal season of 2014 brought us breathtaking ‘Golden Era’ influenced fashions. Sweetheart necklines, off-the-shoulder sleeves, and embroidered tulle have found a place in bridal wear once again. Beyond the 50’s inspired demure detailing, the season also saw its share of color; from cornflower to gray, and lilac to mint, the runways were showcasing muted tones for the bride that wants to escape tradition. Hair was worn in a classical French twist or low bun, makeup is natural and teeth are, of course, glamorously white. Let’s take a look at some of this season’s biggest wedding themes as we leave 2014 behind.

Old Hollywood Glamour
Reminiscent of the attire worn by Marilyn Monroe and Elizabeth Taylor, bridal gowns for the 2014 season fit the body in all the right places. The sweetheart necklines are prominent once again, and have just the right draping to highlight the décolletage. Sleeves–whether cap, strap, or three-quarter–trail over the edge of the shoulder in a captivating way. Tulle will always find its place in the bridal world. The season is no different as gowns are decked out in tulle tiers, embellished over-skirts and intricate lace.

A Splash of Colour
The allure of a color wash found its way into some of the top designers’ gowns this year. Shades such as bronze or buttercup might seem more bridesmaid than bride; however, the trend of a color on the star of the show is sticking. The colours are subdued, not bright, but not so dampened as to wash out the bride. Bridal shops will be a virtual prism of luminosity, with the move away from once mandatory snowier shades. This shift gives designers more leeway to create exclusive looks. It provides brides with options that simply have not been seen before–at least in mainstream shops.

Bridal hair is nowadays understated with a bun worn at the nape, or an up-sweep that has a simple pearl adornment. As for hair kept down, simple waves dominate the stage. The runway for the upcoming bridal season also showed nearly nude faces. Just a hint of pale blush and a trace of neutral shadow brings focus to the bride’s features. Glossed lips highlighted smiles so bright, brides might want to consider a trip to the nearest Polo Park dental centre just to get the same mega-watt radiance with Winnipeg cosmetic dentistry and whitening techniques. Brides will delight in this season’s striking fashions. Gowns obviously designed with a movie star in mind, give an air of prestige without being garish. A hint of tint brightens up the day and adds character to a bride’s face. Hair and makeup left simple mean less prep and more natural beauty. Wedding season is here, and the powers that be have all had their say. Let the bells begin! 2014 trends will no doubt be twisted in 2015 but many of the styles will carry through a few bridal seasons.
