Lifting Area by Area
For over 20 years, Rénergie has accompanied millions of women in their fight against wrinkles and loss of firmness. Taking its inspiration from major scientific discoveries, Lancôme is constantly pushing back the boundaries of beauty for even more powerful anti-ageing effectiveness.
Today, Lancôme is once again taking a pioneering approach and drawing its inspiration from a new world: space biology. Lancôme’s wealth of knowledge about the skin’s biological mechanisms and original test methods, including space biology, opens new perspectives in the fight against ageing.
Lancôme has created the exclusive [Up-Cohésion]™ technology for Rénergie Multi-Lift, a combination of active ingredients tested under extreme conditions of simulated microgravity through an exceptional partnership with Professor Alain Colige, a space biology expert.
Rénergie Multi-Lift heralds the birth of new redefining lifting skincare. For smoother, firmer skin, to restore the skin’s tautness and redefine the facial contours, area by area. A new performance generation inspired by advanced science.
Space Biology and redefining cosmetic lifting
It has been clearly established and acknowledged that the skin loses firmness with age. After the age of 40, this loss of firmness is approximately 10% per decade. However, very surprisingly, the most significant loss of firmness is observed in astronauts. Why?
Prolonged stays in space cause a series of physiopathological changes in astronauts associated with a lack of gravity, such as bone demineralisation or muscle atrophy, leading to accelerated ageing.
A pioneering study of its kind has also made it possible to document loss of skin firmness. Accordingly, after a long-term mission lasting more than five months in the International Space Station, an astronaut may experience a loss in skin firmness of up to 46%1. Quite remarkably, this phenomenon proves to be reversible a few months after their return to earth. This observation thus confirms a field of possibility in the fight against ageing for the cosmetics sector.
The dermal cells, the fibroblasts, as well as the bone cells, play a key role in the formation, the duration and the quality of their respective tissue. In a state of weightlessness, in the absence of gravity, these cells become detached from the surrounding extracellular matrix. The consequence is that their morphology, their cytoskeleton and their biological capacities change, thus undergoing ( in many respects) accelerated ageing.
Similar deteriorations are observed inside the skin during chronic ageing. Combined with the changes in the extracellular matrix, it leads to impairment in the skin’s mechanical properties, as its elasticity and firmness.
Modification of Cutaneous Tissues with Age
The fibroblast becomes attached to collagen fibres thanks to attachment structures, which allow them to be stretched, to support the derma and to participate to maintain skin elasticity and firmness.
Inside the old skin, a detachment of cells is observed. Both the fragmentation of collagen and elastin fibers in the dermal matrix and the loss of mechanical tensions inside the fibroblasts lead to this. The detachment results in a slackening of cutaneous tissues.
Accordingly, drawing on the science of Space Biology, Lancôme investigated the biological mechanisms behind accelerated skin ageing and has uncovered the key role of cell-matrix attachment structures. These attachment structures particularly ensure the cohesion between cytoskeletal proteins of the dermal cells, the fibroblasts, and the components of the matrix and are responsible for the skin’s firmness and tautness. The process of the fibroblasts becoming detached from the matrix therefore results in loss of skin density and firmness with age.
To resculpt the dermis in depth and restore the skin’s tautness, Lancôme has created the exclusive [Up-Cohésion] TM technology. Found at the heart of Rénergie Multi-Lift, it offers a multiple strategy:
– Reinforce the fibroblasts’ cytoskeleton
– Restructure the dermal matrix
– Reinforce the cell-matrix attachment structures

Lifting Efficiency Refined
Wrinkles, firmness and contours. The new Redefining Lifting skincare from Rénergie Multi-Lift targets these concerns area by area. Its performance has been demonstrated on the basis of the latest test protocols published by our laboratories and proven by independent experts. Clinically proven action that is also appreciated by women.
Benefits area by area
Rénergie Multi-Lift Redefining Lifting skincare’s performance has been measured by experts on wrinkles in the crow’s feet; forehead and nasolabial fold areas using dynamic atlases developed by our Research or by image analysis on impressions. This measurement was performed after four weeks’ use on panels of 40 to 60 women with wrinkles of a grade at least greater than 2. It was thus demonstrated that Rénergie Multi-Lift Redefining Lifting skincare significantly reduces wrinkles after just four weeks.
With Rénergie Multi-Lift Redefining Lifting Skincare Cream, ptosis of the lower face is reduced by 22% after four weeks. The lifting effect of the new Light Cream was also assessed using the so-called “displacement field” method by measuring the tautness of the skin on the horizontal and vertical axes. The position of the cheekbone and two other areas of the cheek and jaw were studied. Image analysis of these different areas shows restored tautness in the jaw area towards the ear and lifting of the cheekbone.

A Global Beauty Ritual
Lancôme considers beauty as the result of complementary approaches and is going even further by recommending a global beauty ritual for contoured definition. A ritual offering the perfect combination of unprecedented facial massage and make-up application techniques, to achieve re-sculpted facial contours.
A two-minute technique for a lifting effect
Applying gentle pressure with both hands, make upward movements from the middle of your chin along the outline of the face and under the jaw to the bottom of the ears. Execute six movements alternating between the two hands.
Continue with the same movements firmly smoothing from the chin, along the outline of the face, following the outline of the face up to the ear. Then from the upper lip to the top of the ear. Then from the cheekbones to the temples. Execute six movements alternating between the two hands on every outlines.
Begin the technique with more strength at the outer corner of the eyebrow and make small movements, alternating between the two hands, moving up perpendicularly over the forehead to the hairline. Repeat this step three times. Then carry out a second and third cycle, starting from the middle and then the inner corner of the brow.
Redefining make-up application
Apply foundation with a brush, working from the centre of the face outwards and sweeping upwards. Then apply concealer in the centre of the chin and the inner and outer corners of the eyes to create points that catch the light and begin to sculpt the face.
Finally, to intensify the structure of the face, add a touch of pink blusher to the top of the cheekbone. Then, to broaden the eyes and perfect the redefinition of the face, apply the eyeliner moving up to the exterior of the eye.
