I can not believe that January 2017 is almost over… in fact that there are just 2 days left in the month… I really don’t know where the time is going and those of you getting married this year will not feel it !! I bet you’re excited ? I am sure many of you are thinking about decor and final touches for your weddings and hopefully I can inspire you to include something new and lovely in your wedding !
The thing to remember with wedding trends is that they don’t just last a season [ like with fashion trends ] they can last several years, so if you see something you like here, but you’re not getting married for another couple of years, chances are it will still be on trend !
Wedding Colours Trends….
1. The big colour for 2017 weddings – Greenery
The Pantone colour of the year for 2017 is ‘ Greenery ‘ – this is a fresh – zesty yellow green which will feature in pretty much any wedding that has flowers or florals in it due to well… greenery used by the florist ! We’ll still continue to see a lot of last years Pantone colours of the years in this year’s weddings which are Rose Quartz and & Serenity [ a lovely soft blue. ] Check out our post on Bridal Colour & Style Ideas for 2017 to see Rose Quartz & Serenity inspiration !
2. Non-traditional Metallics
For years silver and gold were the staple metallics for [nearly every] wedding. While still popular they’ve been outstripped by their non-traditional metallic cousins and now Rose Gold, Copper and Pewter are what everyone is choosing [ read: flocking to]. So if you are looking to add a comtemporary modren twist or metallic element to your decor chose one of these on trend metallics !
3. All-white weddings are on the way out.
For the past number of years, all white weddings, where both bride and bridesmaids wear a wedding dress have been all the rage. These were largely popularised by Kate Middleton’s Wedding to Prince William and Kim Kardashians [well] Weddings. We are now seeing colour come back with a bang ! And often with a pop of pattern too !
Where and how are people planning their weddings ?
4. Destination Weddings & Elopements are big on trend.
Skipping away or travelling abroad is BIG among couples right now. Some don’t want the hassle or expense of a big wedding and others like the romance of going away and coming back hitched. Either way, you might find you have less and less weddings to attend in the next couple of years !
5. It’s all [virtually] in the clouds !
More and more couples are using apps and online cloud-based software to help them plan their wedding, almost exclusively. Among the top wedding planning tools that couples now use to plan their weddings are Pinterest and Facebook; for both looking for ideas and sourcing wedding suppliers. Software like Dropbox and Goolge Drive make sharing and storing ideas and documents super easy and couples can share and plan with their entire Wedding Party even if they are based 20,000 miles away !
6. Wedding Tech Effects are everywhere !
Custom Hashtags, Selfie Mirror Photobooths, Projecting Images onto your wedding cake and snapchat geofilters are all the rage. It’s uncommon for a wedding not to have some techy aspect, even if that is just a mobile charging station or Instragm Cut Out for those all important social media selfies.
Couples try and come up with their best tech and sharing options for their big day… so get your thinking caps on and come up with something fun and memorial… who knows, it might even become a viral sensation !
Wedding Surprise, Surprise, Surprise !!!
Let’s face it, the bones or elements of a wedding day rarely change. How couples make theirs stand out is through personalization and a little one man up-manship that goes on…
7. Elaborate Entertainment & Entrances
One way to ensure a show stopping wedding is to do something really different or special with your entertainment or when your guests are least expecting it. You’ve only to YouTube ‘unique wedding entertainment’ and you’ll get a whole bevvy of inspiring ideas from
- Groom’s singing their brides down the aisle.
- Rings being delivered by Owls.
- Choreographed Bridal Party First Dances to Thriller.
- Fire Dance Entry to the Reception.
If you can dream it, its possible its happened and been recorded for you to perfect. The bigger the better [ it would seem] with these elaborate entrances… so get your creative thinking caps on !
8. Surprise and Unique Settings
Everyone wants their wedding to stand out. To be the first at the new venue, to have something different and unique to everyone else. Hotel weddings are not the norm anymore… couples are now looking at museums, parks, piers, camping sites, boats, barns, walled gardens anything that is a little different to hold their wedding in.
9. Balloons are back… with a twist.
In the 80s some considered balloons a chic way to decorate their wedding or event. I can’t say I agreed, but this time around balloons have definitely gotten bolder and braver and I think I am loving it a little. Bare with me and take a look. Balloons are now beginning to feature rather prominently and even replacing or taking over some big trends.
Remember the flower wall [ made famous by Kim K’s wedding ? ] well it’s back and improved with a balloon bang !
DIY Tutorial for this beauty is here.
Even those gorgeous swag and garland centrepieces that we’ve all been drooling over are getting bigger for their bang with balloons !
10. Wedding Dress Trends for 2017
