Preparing your Garden for Spring
With a name that means ‘little flower’ you might be mistaken for thinking that I’m an amazing gardener. I wish ! My mother has the greenest thumbs I know. She only has to look at a patch of soil for it to flourish into something florally beautiful. I share her face, but not her gardening gift ! My garden; is well… [nicely put] a work in progress. So you can imagine that preparing my garden for spring is a little daunting.
This year, however, I want to make some changes !
I have two big gardening goals for 2017:
- Growing a Herb Garden
Composting is something I know nothing about but I want to become more environmentally conscious. [ I’ve just realised that I’ve been recycling ALL WRONG for decades – but that is an entirely different post ]. I will make small continuous steps towards this and first up for me is composting.
Growing herbs has been on my mind for years ! I buy a huge amount of herbs to cook with and often those little plants to sit on the counter – which die, of course. This year, I want to get more serious about it and put in a proper little herb section in my garden to grow herbs I use regularly.
I also have two pretty lofty [for me] gardening aspirations for 2017:
- Growing wisteria and roses over a my gazebo in the back garden
- Growing wisteria and roses over the archway in front of house.
I suppose in a way, they’re kind of the same lofty aspiration but because its two different locations, front and back I consider it two different ones. Again, I know nothing about growing wisteria or roses. And I especially know nothing about getting wisteria and roses to grow in a specific way… or training them to do that. I just think both would look darling !
But I think before I get into my goals or aspirations it might be a good idea to get to some basics and so that is where preparing your garden for spring comes into play… although you will notice one of my goals is listed on this… #score !
And eh, check out what you can do with Quality Street wrappers… I NEVER knew this, did you ?!
